Making the most of Xbox Game Pass

It’s  a quick one I forgot to put into my ‘hello’ post. I need to briefly talk about Xbox Game Pass. And most importantly THIS IS NOT AN AD!! I’m just trying to give you the best deals. Right now, in my opinion, it is easily the best deal in gaming (at time of writing you can get your first 3 months for £1). There are different options but for me it’s obvious you should be going for the ultimate offer, game pass on console and PC and gold subscription. The prices vary depending on offer but it’s still an incredible deal. (There are even options that involve getting a console on this service but that’s another thing to talk about on a different day)

But what is it? The best way I’d describe it is the Netflix of gaming. You have a list of games to choose from and you download them, they stay on your system till removed. There is a revolving door element to the games so be aware some games won’t be on here forever. But there’s plenty of time to play them. And there’s even a leaving soon tab so you know what’s leaving. So pretty sweet deal already, yes? But it gets better, let’s talk about Xbox Rewards

Well what is it I hear you ask? You do need Game Pass for the good stuff but other than that it’s all incredibly simple. They offer you points that you can exchange for rewards.  That’s really it, like any rewards system. So not only are you getting hundreds of games on game pass (if you have it) but also you can earn points for say a £5 Xbox gift card to give you that sweet sweet easy gamerscore game.

(You can google ‘Microsoft rewards’ and sign in there and I’d say earn roughly 50 points a day if you’re not wanting any commitment to a monthly subscription, also once signed in you’ll get points for any purchase from the Microsoft store)

Let’s move onto quests. Quests work alongside Game Pass to give you larger amounts of points. For example; earn 3 achievements in this game and you’ll get 300 points. They vary in games so this is a great opportunity to try something new and earn some points while you’re doing it and if I’m honest, I was shocked about how quickly these points rack up. I’m up to my third gift card already in just over half a year and they sit around the 6,000 point mark.

(It also needs to be said these aren’t bad games, at this point pretty much any Xbox/Microsoft exclusive is landing there, the list really does go on.)

Now here’s thing about Game Pass, they announce some pretty amazing games regularly, last month they announced Subnautica (yes there is a review coming) and a few days ago they announced ‘untitled goose game’ coming to game pass at some stage this week (Just also UNTITLED GOOSE GAME IS COMING TO GAME PASS). It could already be there at the time this comes out. Now I already love that game and that’s just from watching videos, so I’ll download it right away, right???... well no, and here’s why.

Xbox rewards are mostly linked to games pass and will offer you very easy weekly rewards, but most importantly monthly rewards. This is where you’ll earn hundreds of points very easily. These are always generally attached to a new or very popular game pass game. (And gaining achievements in theses games, and if like me and that’s you’re thing, added bonus). Last month when Subnautica was announced, I waited until the new reward quests were announced before downloading it, and because I did that, I earned 500 Xbox rewards points, all with that one game.

I will say it’s a bit of guessing what games the quests will be in, they might not even have a points quest towards any game but if you have already perfected a game and it pops up as a quest, then Microsoft say ‘sorry but you can’t get the points anymore’ so sometimes it’s worth just waiting that little bit longer.

So here’s what I’m saying, Xbox game pass is a sensational deal you should make the most of, Xbox rewards is another thing you should make the most of, but play it smart. There are always ways to get yourself free stuff.

I guess most importantly is don’t expect my ‘Untitled Goose Game’ review until January. And my Christmas present to you is opening your eyes to Xbox rewards. I have gained a lot of extra gamerscore form my free gifts, so get on it!!
